چکیده

The total column ozone data from SCIAMACHY were monitored in the ozone data assimilation system at NASA’s Data Assimilation office (DAO). The ozone data from NOAA−16 Solar Backscatter UltraViolet/2 (SBUV/2) instrument are assimilated in the DAO’s system. The monitoring consists of computing the differences between SCIAMACHY observations and the ozone system forecast, i.e. observed−minus−forecast (O−F) residuals. The O−F residuals are then analyzed using simple statistical methods. Two monitoring experiments were performed for SCIAMACHY data for the period form October 25 to December 1, 2002. In the first experiment no quality control other than the quality flag provided with the data was used. In the second experiment a simple range check (total column ozone values must be greater that 100 and less than 1000 Dobson units) was used to screen the data before monitoring. In both experiments large O−F residuals were concentrated in the northern and southern high latitudes at what appear to be high solar zenith angles near the terminator. In the experiment with the range check the zonal mean of SCIAMACHY observations is 20 to 30 Dobson units lower that that of the DAO forecast throughout the Tropics and mid−latitudes. At high latitudes where the magnitude of the O−F residuals is particularly large, however, the SCHIAMACHY total ozone is higher then the DAO forecast.

Global satellite validation of SCIAMACHY O3 columns with GOME WFDOAS

Global stratospheric ozone columns derived from UV nadir spectra measured by SCIAMACHY (Scanning Imaging Spectrometer for Atmospheric Chartography; data ESA Versions 5.01 and 5.04) aboard the recently launched Environmental Satellite (ENVISAT) from January to June 2003 were compared to collocated total ozone data from GOME (Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment on ERS2) retrieved using the weighti...

Surface Uv Radiation Monitoring Based on Gome and Sciamachy

Solar UV radiation reaching the Earth’s surface is monitored by means of two quantities: the clear-sky UV index at local solar noon and the daily UV dose. Each quantity is determined on the basis of two action spectra, describing wavelength dependent biological effects of UV radiation, namely erythema (sunburn) and DNA-damage. The quantities are derived from total ozone column measurements by t...

Ground-based and Satellite Measurements of Stratospheric Nitrogen Dioxide and Ozone over the South of Portugal

Thanks to the new satellite technology, global scenes of the dynamical and chemical processes of the atmospheric compounds can be drawn. Ground-based equipments have to be used for comparison/validation of the satellite retrievals. The SPATRAM (SPectrometer for Atmospheric TRacers and Aerosol Measurement) is a UV-Vis spectrometer allowing for the measurements of spectral sky radiance along the ...

Monitoring Nitrogen Oxides with Satellite Instruments: High Resolution Maps from Gome Narrow Swath Mode and Sciamachy

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) allows to retrieve tropospheric vertical column densities (TVCDs) of NO2. Mean maps of the global distribution of NO2 TVCDs reveal a clear fingerprint of anthropogenic sources due to fossil fuel combustion. However, GOME data suffer from the rather large footprint size of 320 km east-west, leading to a smearing out of the NO2 peaks in the retrieved ...
